Dan started riding even before he could walk and as a young boy took part in all the usual pony club and riding club activities. His family owns a yard in Derbyshire, where he grew up backing and riding all the Irish horses and ponies they imported and then sold on. In addition Dan took every opportunity he was given to ride ponies for many different people in the local area.
At the young age of 16, Dan left home when he decided to ride for other people who have over the years helped him to be the trainer he is today. Dan has learned his skill from many different people the main ones being; Carron Nicol (European Sports Horses), the Light family (Brendon Stud), Nations cup rider Tim Brown, and his wife Antonia Brown (international event rider) and has backed and produced a large number of different horses many of which have gone on to compete at national and international level. Dan has also had help along the way from top show jumpers Billy Twomey and his protege Anthony Condon as well as event rider Paul Simms and has competed in young horse show jumping classes all over the country.
Setting up his own business in 2009, Dan specalises in problem solving, correct flatwork for jumping, and improving a horse’s way of going through a combination of work in hand, lunge techniques and ridden exercises. Dan does not use force or gadgets, but trains horses and riders with long term goals in mind. There are no quick fix gimmicks in Dan’s method of training. His aim is to promote mentally and physically well balanced horses and happy confident riders.
Dan is very excited to be part of the CROWN training team and we really are delighted to offer all our members the wonderful opportunity to train with him.
